Your Contemporary Community.

The Contemporary Arts Center (CAC), began as an artist-run, artist-driven community organization. In the four decades that followed, the CAC has become a hub for the visual and performing arts communities in New Orleans – and for artists from across the world -- and now represents a new era of creative freedom in a revitalized and thriving city.  The 2016—2017 Season marks the CAC’s 40th Anniversary. Located at 900 Camp Street in New Orleans, The CAC boasts roughly 10,000 square feet of gallery space for rotating and permanent exhibitions. It is home to local artists' bold experiments in painting, theater, photography, performance art, dance, music, video, education, and sculpture.

The CAC was formed in the Fall of 1976 by a passionate group of visual artists when the movement to tear down the walls between visual and performing arts was active nationwide. The CAC began as an artist-run-and-driven community organization in the nearly empty Art District of New Orleans. As the burgeoning district grew, so did the CAC, continually evolving to meet the needs of its diverse audience and artist communities. Throughout the last 40 years, the center has remained active in the Visual/Performance Art and Art Education communities, and continues to represent an era of creative freedom and multidisciplinary expression.

The CAC is one of a handful of nationwide arts organizations that has remained solvent and successful, all while serving a truly multidisciplinary mission.

The CAC's education department engages over 10,000 children and adults annually, with the important inclusion of special needs and low income programming. Education and outreach projects offer intimate Art Education settings where students work together with artists, many for the first time; generating a greater impact through a personal, intimate experience. The CAC's significance and impact on the cultural community of New Orleans has and will continue to be heralded for its broad community-based programs and initiatives.

Funds raised at any level for this campaign will support their education programs including The CAC Teen Board, Summer Arts Camp, and Educational Field Trips.
